He seems to have slipped seamlessly into opposition.

He wants to be careful who he quotes as everybody has skeletons in there cupboard

Where was his science???

So he and his party have not come across a lobby group before????

Same old same old me thinks.

Interesting read, Some amazing statements though!

quote:

They bring the fish to the side of a boat only to find that it is not the right size and it has suffered barotrauma, so they throw it over the side. Barotrauma particularly applies to dhufish because they have a chemical in their blood, which means no matter how fast they get to the sea bed and no matter what Frank Prokop says, they are dead.

So release wieghts ARE crap then?
Or do we pick and choose what is true and what is false to suit our own ends?

quote:

Why all of a sudden during the election campaign did now-Premier Barnett say that a new government would lift the bans and conduct a review? I reckon that at some fundraiser or Liberal Party event Hal Harvey, whose wife is the new member for Scarborough, sidled up to Colin Barnett and said that he would be on a winner if he lifted the bans because it would mean votes, and that is what the Premier has done.

Hmmm so this is how everything is decided? Some great science going on here...

Yup interesting read.

John

I liked this bit........

I also enjoy fly fishing. I have paid extraordinary amounts of money on fly fishing tackle because fly fishermen lose lots of tackle in the mangroves, and, I can tell members, they break rod tips flicking little shelters and flies snagging under mangroves. They get tangled up and it is possible to see where everybody else has been because the mangroves look like little Christmas trees with little bits of tinsel hanging off.

And this , GM crops , Uranium mining come to mind

The sort of governance that this state can look forward from Premier Colin Barnett is that people can sidle up to him regardless of history and put an idea in his head, and he will get his ministers to implement it no matter what the science.

Barney Rubble .

So I stand accused, in Hansard no less, of being a schmoozer. No, not my style Jon. But then facts have never played much of a part in Jon Ford's view on this subject. I'm sure some of the FFLA criticism is well wide of the mark too, but then I'm pretty sure he refused to meet with them, so there's not much hope of accuracy there either. To say FFLA had its genesis in Bluewater is plain wrong.

My biggest concern in his tirade, apart from his gloating about littering pristine locations, is that he pays $35 for pro laser (I assume he means Laser Pro) lures. We sell them for half that. That can only mean he's not a customer of ours, which I'm quite distraught about. We elected his crowd to govern us for seven-odd years; did they pay twice as much as they should have for everything?

Jon Ford praises the charter industry for filling in returns, yet he didn't want compulsory log books for recreationals (I do). He praises licences and quotas for commercials and the charter industry, but doesn't want them for recreationals (I do). He criticises upgrading, but doesn't want to ban it (I do). He had the opportunity to do all of that, and chose not to, some of it against specific advice from Fisheries. If you want to talk about hypocrisy, Jon, let's start there.

What he doesn't get is that my pet hate is management by exclusion. Invariably it's much more about exclusion than it is about management. At least now we have a chance that some of the things he failed to do, will be addressed under a new Fisheries Minister and a new Fisheries CEO. It might not happen, and I don't have any special say in it, but at least now we have a chance again.

yep. with ya James, its crap, its the way it is. Mr Moore can change this way if he has the balls, Ford had it in some ways.just didnt have the guts too introduce a  compulsary log book for recs, would of sorted the men from the boys, put restrictions on  the RLFB that took too much, simple really, ya get caught not filling in ya book,ya loose ya RLFB, how hard is that. no fine just ya loose ya access

Hal my comments were a joke.hope ya know this, but if Ben and biggles/Rob and every other company that sells tackle / boats want too have a win like this, we will come in force, fish first, then catch., that ya can take too the bank,

wally

Anyone else saying that and it would be defamation!

It's about time Australia got rid of 'parlimentary privilege' and made politicians accountable for
what they say and how they act in public!

And until that happens,  most of us will continue to treat some of them with the contempt they
so richly deserve!

indicated that the advice was sound; that is, this fishery is in dire straits. It is in such dire straits that even with the implementation of the bans, dhufish stocks might not recover. That is the advice that we have been confronted with

jon ford .the hypocrite   ..is now happily able to say anything he likes about the situation ........he now has no responsibility to act on any of it ........

why did he allow the use of aproxx 7.2 million metres of demersal gill net to be used of the wa coastline  every year if it was so dire ??? why did he do nothing to remove it ???and why did it take his gov over 10 years to act on the wetline review for commercials ???   if it was in dire straits ???

and yes why no rec  compulsory log books /or licences /or capped yearly boat limits /or spawning closures for all sectors if it was so dire ????

typical  of the man  imho ..........he also yet again misleadingly quotes the removal of 1100 fishing boats from the fishery .........what a smoke and mirrors trick that was

I hope that this will happen..........but I'm not holding my breath.

The recent history of WA politics and countless missed opportunities that could have
benefited the public and the environment is nothing that any of us should be proud of.

hez , look what the minister has done thou, ya quick to bag him mate, but he is miles ahead on any other dipshit we have ever had. Mr Moore needs to be even better.

As for ya comment about the government doing jack, they have been doing jack since the cows came home, liberal is no better then labor when it comes too fisheries management thats a fact.
