Anybody out there drive a current model  Hilux Diesel
I have one that is 2 years old 50 thou ks
I have a concer that the motor is very noisy (rattly) on startup - more than normal.
dose anybody else have this ptroblem (or not a problem)
It is noisy at a certain rev for the first 5 k or so and then runs like a dream
I thought it was when it was just cold, but it does it during the day after driving it in the morning

This is well reported with the D4D in both the hilux and the Prado. Toyota haven't been very helpfull so far and have tried all sorts of things including replacing injectors.

Toyota boffins are still working on the problem

We've got a 3.0lt  doing the same thing and
rather than wait for Toyota to come up with a magic fix short of pulling the injectors,
pump and re-mapping the ECU, we are getting the fuel analysed to see what went
into the tank.  It may be that a 2 micron filter / water trap will be added to the line.

The 10 Micron one I added upstream of the OEM 2 micron unit, did a fine job of removing 95% of the crap in my late model Hilux. That left the 2 micron one to remove the very fine stuff that was left, and prevented fuel starvation of the main fuel pump.

I will  be doing much the same for the Nissan, as soon as I have a spare day or so, and a workshop to do it in.
