Well as most you regulars will know i recently purchased from Troy a fine sea going vessel (see this thread) http://www.westernangler.com.au/forum/Free_Boat%21%21%21%21%21/m_157615/tm.htm For the princely sum of "$0" (cheers Troy). with the intent of converting her into a flats / bream boat. So i though id start a thread to cover the re-build and keep everyone up to date with the project. Hopefully this serves as a guide to others who are thinking of doing the same or similar thing. Only hope it stops some from making the mistakes that Im sure i will make along the way. Might take me a few months to get this one done, so will have to keep this tread moving along every now and again.

So here we go.

First of, of comes the windscreen and most of the other stuff, like bollards, rod holders, wheel steering gear, rubbing strip etc.

Next job was cut the cab off. Most boats you would have to be carefully with doing this as the cab forms a lot of strength in the hull. In this case the floor helps stiffen the hull, and IL be adding some ribs later in the project to stiffen up the sides of the hull.

Now your starting to get an idea of how Im going to set her up. The old bunk compartments at the front will eventually become a raised casting platform / storage and maybe even a holding tank for fish. The fiberglass seat you see in the photo is one iv had lying about for a while. Was just using it to size things up. I may end up using it or i may end up just buying two new seats with pedestals to mount into her.

A mate has an old 40hp 2 stroke that he has said i can borrow for as long as i need, since he has no use for it and reckons its only worth a hundred buck or so since its so old. Keeping an eye out for a good second hand trailer so let me know if anyone spots one (hull is around 4m)

Next job is to roll her over and clean / polish up the hull!

Keep watching this space!

Just going to go tiller steer, with pedestal seats. KISS principle besides its not a big enough boat to warrant wheel steering IMO.

And here the finished product

You'll need to chop 3 inches off the top of the hull Fraz. Have you checked the floor to see if its mushy?

OH yea Dawsey, did a very thorough check of her and the hull in in pretty good nick, as is the floor. Always wise to check these things before you waste your effort. Transom is in reasonable nick. Id preferred it if the previous owner hadn't drilled as many holes into her, but allows me inspection holes to check out the transom plate and i can soon repair the holes during the rebuild.

Don't like the way that hull in the photo is sitting on wooden strips rather than tyres, there Dawsey. Good way to damage the gelcoat and allow water in so osmosis can start!

Will be some more photos after the weekend Todd. Im going to flip the hull over and start buffing her up (will take photos). Tried to flip her last weekend but realized it needed two blokes, just before i gave myself a hernia. Will pop the photos up on Monday.

PS. found great trailer at the right price as well, but the kitty is bare. Hopefully it don't sell before we are cashed up again?
