The word is that the official opening of the Bundegi boat ramp will take place next Thursday @ 4:00pm and will be available for use after 6:00pm. The completion of the ramp was delayed awaiting the use of a dredge to excavate some sand to place the last section of the ramp. They ended up using an excavator to finish the job. I reckon the ramp will be a tad busy the following weekend.

Trevor,

Is the ramp much of an improvement on the old one?

Cheers

I haven't any pictures at the mo' Andy but fair to say, you won't have any bogging issues anymore. The ramp runs out on pylons over the water's edge and then down to the water. It's only one lane (so was the old one) but you'll have to reverse out some 30-40 metres. Time will tell if that becomes a problem but I still believe it's a vast improvement on what we have had before.

30-40m reverse?  Pice of pi$$ for me and a few otheres.   For some it will be a nightmare.  Seen enough people at two lane ramps strugling to keep there boat from hitting the jetties either side

Still will make for some funny times. Id like to see video of the first boat and car to go over the side, posted up on Youtube

Fraze,

There's a couple of blokes I've been talking to that reckon they might set up at the side of the ramp with umbrella and eskies in the first couple of days to watch the fun.

That was half the fun with the old ramp, go down late arvo with a few coldies and watch the inexperienced bury their trailers trailers in the sand - usually follwed by 4 wheel spin, resulting in the tow vehicle digging it's way to china, until thw whole rig gets hung up on the axles.

Yeh Denis,

It really was a poxy set up towards the end of its life, the Shire were constantly trying to keep the ramp clean of sand with front end loaders and fighting a losing battle doing it.

The new ramp will take close to 20k's off the round trip to the Murrions, should take the load off Tanta as well.

I heard from the local rescue guys the delay was due to $ as the piles had to be driven a lot further than first thought .

The piles/ pylons were part of the delay in the earlier stages. I'm saying the final delay was due to the need to shift some sand to place the last section of ramp in place.

Are there any plans to extend the Tantabiddi ramp?

Cheers

I must have been lucky with the old one, the only complaint I had was I had to wait for the Bobcat that was clearing the ramp to get out of the way.

Might be waiting a while for that one Andy. It'll be up to the new Government to drag up the funds.

I've got a meeting up in Exmouth on 11th Nov.  I might see if I can drag myself away from the potshot bar to have a look.

I also read that that the Manta Ray restuarant in Exmouth picked up the  "Best Regional licensed fine dining" award in the recent gold plate awards.  Good stuff

Tantabidi ramp is in the wrong place, it should never have been located next to the creek, it does not matter what you do when those rain storms come you will still end up with tons of sand dumped at this location.
What a balls up
