Hi Guys,

Chasing some opinions here.  Looking for a spinning reel to hold 80lb braid - will be used very occasionally from the beach for tailor/mulloway (once or twice a year).  Mainly plan on using the reel for bottom bouncing when the missus comes out on the boat - I have plenty of overheads but she struggles with these.  I'm not into jiging for sambo's, closest I would get to that is using an 'octo style' jig for jewies and snapper.

Was thinking of either a Daiwa Sealine Bull,a Shimano Spheros, or possibly a Fin-Nor Ahab or Offshore (had looked at these from the US but may need to reconsider given the state of the Aussie dollar). Trying to spend under $200 (the less the better) but still want a reasonably strong and reliable reel.

Anyone had any experiences with the Sealine, or have any opinions or other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Denis

hey denis,

ive got a sheros 14000fa holding 80 pound braid and have used it for both of the puposes you require it for and have found it to be great, some guys on here have had a problem with the line on thiers catching on the bail arm or somthing like that ( im sure someone can alaborate) but i havent experienced it. i got the carbon tex put in, but as i saw on one of ashley's vids a good noah will still smoke them.

imo its a good reel now avalible for under $200 (for the f.a.). good warranty too.

cheers russ

new spheros's are now just under $300 ,unless you get a hold of an old model.

The penn ssm range is bullet proof and the 950 should handle 50-80lb
well under $200 these days too i think

Forget the Sealine Bull, thats a high speed reel. Look at the Opus Bull, same reel but low gear ratio and less bearings and CHEAPER. Will hold 80lb braid and does all of what  you want.
