Motorists caught with drugs in their system could face fines of up to $1500 for refusing to tell police where they got the illicit substances from, under a plan mooted by Shadow Police Minister Rob Johnson. The plan is one of a number of measures the Liberals plan to put in place if elected in a bid to crack down on drug dealers in the State. Drivers convicted of driving under the influence of drugs should cop a tripling of fines if they do not provide the name of whoever supplied them with the substance, Mr Johnson said.

Would this work

IMHO, certainly something needs to be done, is this an option.

Yep, works for me to Den.

The code of silence/fear is what allows this scourge to proliferate.

Whatever rules we have at present are not working. I'd be happy to give this a run.

I dont think it will catch the Mr Bigs, but it may well deter the bloke that sells a bit of gear down the pub/club.

Possibly, that in turn removes the stooges/mules etc of the drug trade....which in turn affects the Mr Bigs

Basically its an attack on the weak link of the supply chain.

I'll stick my neck out here.

I'm 51 , since I was 15 pot and heroin has been around.
My 20s saw acid come on the scene.
My 30s it was speed .
My 40s ecstasy which seemed to evolve into meth .
My 50's ..............who knows whats next or what I have no clue about that's already getting around.

All this time there has been talk of how to stop the scourge of drugs in our society , yet society has survived, may be not for the best in some cases, but I know many people who over the years have dabbled in a bit of each and moved on bring up families and being responsible citizens , just with a much more open view on what really ails our society.

Drugs are going nowhere as best I can tell , all along it's been distributed by corrupt people from a high level and huge money involved, making it just to tempting for the greedy not to become involved.

I believe it's been protected in one form or another at a very high level all my life.

Dob in a dealer will only make a difference to those who think it will .

Society seems to like getting out of it and will continue to want to do so .

I think the answer may be to accept that fact and educate the youth on the responsible use of recreational drugs , its the irresponsible use of drugs that bring grief to our society and keeps the profit margins high for the bad guys.

I could go on about smokes and alcohol being a scurge on society as well and we all know where those profits end up.

But look at the education programs that have been put in place over the years there , my kids are far better educated on the perils of tobacco and drink than I ever was.

I think, we need a rethink .

fraser ......the police do have an exemption to operate at lower speeds in right hand  lanes regardless of the law on dual carriageways and freeways mate ..........this is designed to allow them to turn and stop offenders in oposite  lanes  while using radar etc mate
cheers hezzy

You answered your own question.

You're right, it won't. So therefore business as usual. There will always be street dealers willing to take the risk of someone dobbing them in. It won't affect **** all

Takes a bit more than 1 persons word, saying "this guy sold me drugs", to charge someone, let alone find them guilty in court.

Publicity exercise...nothing more

This won't be cutting any legs off.

Someone giving a name does not equal a conviction. Also, there's no shortage of people willing to be a leg if one does happen to be a bit stupid and get caught.

As long as people want drugs...there will be drugs
