Found some oldish bottles at the farm house we camped at on the weekend.

Some were GSR mineral water bottles by a Katanning company .

Others were Warrick Howard bottles with raised chequered glass work.

I have a vague recollection of a soft drink company from Katanning , interested in finding out some history on the bottles .

They cleaned up real nice , great old farm house with heaps of old stuff still intact , Metters wood stoves and old cast washing coppers , great fun fossicking around.

Anyone remember GSR soft drinks

GSR soft drinks were common in the South West and Great southern for many years and they also
had a bottling plant at Busselton.   Rev will remember them and perhaps Hessey, Tolves and Mancey.

So I've done the google thing, and found one of the small bottles I've got on Ebay , who would have thought there is a whole world of soft drink bottle collectors out there.

Still cant find out what GSR stands for .

Great Southern Region maybe .

Anyone?.

Might be before my time Jim.

But i do remember Murphys chips. Their plant was in Donnybrook, reasonably popular there for a little while.

Steve, when I first moved to Busselton as a 14 year old kid in 1955, the only two soft drinks, besides Coke, were GSR and Robbies.  GSR had a factory in Busselton on the corner of Brown Street and Harris Road.  Robbies was bottled in Bridgetown.  I'm not sure what the intitials were for.  Perhaps Great Southern Refreshments.  The advent of Cottees and Schweppes killed off the demand for the local product.  Back in those days you could get six pence refund on a large bottle and less for a small one.  One particular family were well known for raiding the cases of returns stacked at the back of the shop and selling them back to the owner at the front of the shop.

Cheers

Baz

My old man used to be a boiler maker at Mettams in Ossy Pk, may have done a bit of work on the old stove.
