Thinking of getting an electric cray pot winch installed on the new boat.

Would be interested to hear from anyone who has been through this exercise. Is it best to do it whilst the boat is being built or is this an easy retro-fit later?

What sort of price for supply and fit is reasonable?

Cheers
BMac

Just to addd to the confusion, davit or pot tipper?
My pot winch is nearly 79 years old (dad) so electric looks on the cards for me.
I would think if you have a builder that knows what they are doing and the $$$ at the time that is the way to go.

Thanks guys, yeah looking at pot tipper and am looking at getting it done whilst boat is being built. Just wanted to compare notes with anyone who has done this, or a retro-fit recently.

Cheers

I've got one, so i'd recommend doing it whilst building and that way you can run the cabling under the floor and back to the battery out of the way.
I only use a set of rollers on the side and not a pot tipper

the pots hang OK as they come up as it is and we then manhandle them onto the boat but it would be dependent of the position of the winch and the hull design as to which way you went

Brenden,

I have put an Anchormax vertical capstain winch on the gunnel. The Deckie (The Mrs) gets to sit in the seat and tail the rope into the boat. Have pulled pots out of 30 mtrs without a problem. Attached are some pretty crappy photos but hopefully they will give you an idea of the setup. Pretty simple to install, power comes direct from the batteries with a inline 40amp fuse.

Brendan
sorry for the delay
Christmas is way too busy.
Anyway here are the photos???????
winch is mounted centrally with cabling under the floor within sealed conduit.
Vessel was a licenced cray boat when I bought it (built to survey and with a pot licence.) LFBF 138
so has been built and used extensively by those who do it for a living.

photos still coming Brendan when I can work out what went wrong with the upload.
