Our pair of Rosella's have just helped to keep the species alive.
She laid 5 eggs this year to bring her tally to 47 over the last 8 years.

And she hatched 5 little balls of fluff this morning.

I will keep you up to date with their progress.

Cheers   Rev.

Couldn't resist the urge to try one as live bait eh!  .

Look forward to watching their progress .

I have my own "assist the birds " program happening in my backyards as well , great satisfaction in it .

It's amazing watching the pecking order of a dozen varieties of birds at a feeder , the way crows wash their food and bury stashes around the place.

I've grown very fond of my crows, heaps of character.

Bower birds and Apostle birds were a big favourite up ............ there

At 10 days the little balls of fluff now have beaks and eyes, and a few feathers.

Cheers   Rev.

They hang around the general area, as I have seen up to 30 feeding on the buffalo lawn in late summer when it has gone to seed.

Cheers   Rev.

At a guess I would say yes Mugs. The reason being... the eggs are laid over a period of a few days, and are hatched at the same interval's.When they leave the nest, they do it 1 or 2 days apart until the last on goes. The older ones always seem to get the first feed from the parents, therefore they grow quicker.

Cheers   Rev.

cheers Rev.. I did wonder .. same as many of the parrotlike and also many birds of prey.. the old defense mechanism .. in times of good they all survive, in bad the smallest pops its clogs.

Being the oldest I know how they all feel ... I used to get fed first till my brother was born .. golden nuts he's got .. after that it was all stuff his little face .. hence why I'm skinny and my brothers ...errr..  not

Gee they grow quickly.  Just like me and Christmas festivities.

Just 5 weeks between hatching and flying.   They must be in a good hollow out of reach of cats.
