Guys,
Before I head out for the day...Steve Ando suggested this, wanted to see what people think?
What about a forum, with some keynote speakers, a panel and some room for debate/questions from the floor, on the way forward for good, effective fisheries management?
Let me know your thoughts...

Hi Scott/Steve
Who would be the keynote speakers? What sort of cross section of folks would you be looking at - a whole stakeholder sample (Profs/Recs/Industry/DoF/Murdoch Uni (and other) Researchers/Recfishwest etc)?

What venue and would it be televised? Would it be a megga conference for all fishos to attend . I here Barack had a pretty tidy advertising budget.

How many bouncers do you think would be needed Steve ?

I think it's a great idea with great potential, as long as the obvious passion and very diverse perspectives and opinions (that would be brought along) didn't deteriorate things. And, if you ARE looking at a complete cross section, and people like JSJ attends - you might want to organise 'specialist seating arrangements'

Who would MC/Moderate/Steer such as forum?

Done correctly, and with good attendance and well publicised, it could reach a lot of people - not just fishos and could put a lot of good perspectives in front of them.

Would be great if the minister attended as well perhaps.

Scotty - sounds like a good idea...

Happy to moderate / chair a session - might be appropriate not to actually be living in WA for this one!!

Can't believe you have asked me to write an article on licences just as this all EXPLODES!!

Cheers mate

Stanno

Have you approached anyone about organising this .

Have any venues been approached about hosting it, would there be an admission price to cover costs ??

said it a month ago brendan.... here...

http://www.westernangler.com.au/forum/m_202393/mpage_8/key_meeting/tm.htm#202633

one thing i reckon would be great, would be a open meeting/discussion, with fisheries , rec fish ...commercial , and general rec anglers, to get to the bottom of things.....throw some ideas around..and come to some form of agreement....then maybe a winning combo will be found.

and got the usual reply from some here....that always make things hard....

quote:

I like the idea of a community/RFW meeting to brainstorm some acheivable outcomes which we as anglers can do to rectify the issues of sustainabilty of all fish stocks not just the V5.

top idea,we could call it a jewfish workshop.......tick tock.

there are many better placed people to arrange something like this....however, i know many would happily contribute/pay to help fund, and also partake...

I have written to Nathan Harrison and Doug Bathgate with the suggestion , only Doug replied.

It must be nearly 20 years ago now that a similar get together was held , from memory, I think it was Gordon Hill ? the then fisheries minister who was behind getting it organised

I was a new East Kimberley RFAC rep and was invited down to Sorrento for a 2 day conference.

All the recfish players of the day were there , a long list of who's who in recfishing sat around and put their idea's forward , i was way out of my league

The Fish for the future logo was born and my lasting impression of the meeting was how much could be achieved when like minded folks worked together for a common cause.

I have never forgotten the positives that came from that conference , I returned to KNX and focused for many years on improving access to Barra fishing and gaining them access into the lake system , all due to the impression that recfishing was gaining strength and recognition and I had support .

With the new minister in place and an obvious lack of knowledge of his portfolio I figured it may well be time for a similar type of get together where the recs could nut out some proposals and forward them on to the minister.

There seems to be a whole lot of misinformation around at the moment , I figured it could be a good opportunity to set a few myths straight and shut a few folks up that were ill advised.

Wont happen but would be nice if it did.......... any other members from here who were there???

Interested in attending as a pair of ears for sure, doubt I could speak as well on any issue as quite a few of you lot on here, so would just sit in the corner like a good little boy

Would the press be invited to attend ??

Would it be only Wangler or could it be open invitation to all WA's websites (Fishwrecked, Hotbite, FishingWA etc. etc. members, general public to attend & "if so" could any "inter site" rivalry be put aside for the common good of the reason behind such a forum?

To get the numbers up for attendance perhaps all websites could agree to "push" &  "reccomend" all members attend, by means of a generic advertising campaign through the sites and associated magazines?

Quite happy to pay an entry fee of say $10 to attend, as long as it were held somewhere central so as many could attend.

Al.

Edit: just added a bit.

I cant find Doud Bathgates reply, but from memory it was along the lines of RFAC have something lined up .

I stopped humbugging people after that.

It needs to come from the minister really or at least have his support for it to have any relevance.

Good moderator required .

There are folks still in the system that were at the first one and have probably been to many similar type events since, they are further up the ladder now days and they need to want it to happen or it wont.
