Hey guys I'm in the market for a spare bream rod for the wife to use and also for me to use when i travel.  Something that is 4 or more piece preferably.  Closest thing i can find at the moment is a 3 piece Shimano raider. Cant seem to find many options. Budget is up to around $150.

I heard that Diawa made a heartland in a 5 piece and that would be sweet, but cant seem to find any for sale anywhere, even on the net.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks for the quick response Andrew. Just had a look on-line at one.

Lovely rod but $380 isn't increasing my budget,   its blowing it out of the water mate

The new(ish) Okuma travel rods feel nice. They come in a solid rod tube too.
Well worth a look Fraser.

Mick.

Frase

Check out the Shimano Exage telescopic spinning rods... they fit in a briefcase and go very nicely with a 1500 series reel...

Attached pics are from a trip to Zurich, Switzerland, where I applied bream tactics to the local pike population... awesome fun!

Thanks guys some great options there. Thanks once again to the diverse knowledge sharing of Wangler

Had a look at the Raider this morning and nice rod, but would prefer it to pack down smaller.  Will definitely go check out the other options listed guys and will let you know which one i pick up in the end.

Where you seen one of those okuma rods Micheal?  Not many places stocking okuma rods that iv seen in Perth, or do i spend all my time in Bluewater?

Thanks again guys

Well guys did a bit of looking around.  Found a Shakespeare Excursion that i really like but bluewater only had a baitcaster version & the rod is now discontinued.  If anyone sees one of these for sale anywhere CAN YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW? its a nice crisp blank in a 5 piece.

Failing that its going to be the Shimano raider in a 3 piece. Lovely blank but the reel seat is set right at the butt of the blank (whats with this bloody fashion?) and only been 3 piece it don't go down that small.  So a compromise really.

Fraser, a mate just bought the nitro, despite the expense, and reckons it's the ducks nuts. Looking forward to his Mentawi pics soon.....

Sorry Fraser. Missed this question somehow.
I bought mine from Ranger in Geraldton, but any tackle shop can get them in for you I imagine.
The one I have is 6'6", 4pc, Rated 3-6kg, and come in a solid tube as I mentioned before.
Model number is GR664SPL.

I haven't even used it yet! Think I'll pop down now and flick some plastics.

Mick.

I second the Okuma travel rods. Great value for money and small enough to put in a carry on when flying.

Ah cheers for that Micheal.  When i asked at a few shops i got blank looks, and didn't want to find out for me. Seems like they don't like Okuma?   Now iv got the code i can probably track one down. Cheers mate

Had a look at a few telescopic rods and they seem to have a very slow action which isn't want i want when working soft plastics for Bream, Dave.  Id be happy to be proved wrong though.
