Hey Fellas,

I am fortunate enough to a get a friday off every now and then due to flexi hours at work.

The other adavantage I have is having a company car with free fuel..

So I am planning a fishing trip this weekend but I have absolutely no idea where to go? North?, South?, Margaret River?, Geraldton?...No Idea..

Where would you go? I can take the 14' Catamaran but would prefer to do some shore based stuff where its nice and quiet and possibly no people or dogs or cying babies..

Honestly, I have no ties or excuses to stay at home so its going to be me and the rods for 3 days, most probably drive wherever you guys think I will do well early friday morning so im there for the day break..And I will sleep in the car or just take the 2 man tent..

What you reckon?

hey justin,

if it were me and i only had 3 days i would ditch the catamaran and just hit the rocks n sand and just take your pick for location, i personally cant wait to get back up to wagoe we were there about two months ago but the swell was absolutly pumping so we ended up fishing more towards kalbarri and didnt really get a good crack at it. we were only there for two nights so it was good just to get a look around. ive been to kallbari quite a few times but had not been to wagoe. Next time i wont book just wait for a good looking report to come through, just jump in the car and shake and bake!

im not sure how the swell is looking for this weekend i used windhunter last time but someone may have a better site to use. Its about 5.5 hr drive from me at quinns to wagoe and i think your up my neck of the woods so your already north which will save you time,

you could allways go and pitch a tent any where from quinns to moore river and probably do alright without having to go to far at all although with the weather this week the weed may have pushed in again.

cheers russ

PM Rev, He seems to know whats going on in the south west.

Otherwise the Dongara-Geraldton stretch is good, dunno about conditions though, swell was well up when I was there couple of weeks ago.

Nah, it's a bad time of the year down here. The tailor, herring ,kg's, squid, mullas and gardies have all gone of the bite. I reckon they will be back around Mon or Tues.

Cheers   Rev.

Company cars are good ,but unless it is a company 4wd then it could struggle.
Havent done a lot of beach over recent years but the Cervantes - Greenhead stretch used to be good this time of year

Typical,

Got a call from the cricket club, playing this weekend....

My choice of going out to get some sun and catch a few fish or even nothing...or 6 hours in the sun watching 80 overs of cricket chasing leather....

So I got convinced into cricket...There goes my saturday, might take a drive down to Bunbury maybe busselton today though..

Juzz.

Quobba.Might need a mate tho just to be safe and to help land fish, but plenty of blokes fish it alone and most spots can be reached easily with a 2wd.
Easy 10 hr drive - again a mate helps if driving at night. With a bit of planning , and daylight saving you'll nearly make Geraldton in twilight hours. An easy 500k's to go from there.
Lots of us did 3 day trips to Quobba in the 80's, or 2 dayers to Shark Bay.Repeating the trip the following w'end at times, and we did it in cars like my HK or later the HX,Z panel vans that were the vehicle of choice for many sportfishers.
I've heard a few say we were crazy, it's too hard to do etc. To those I say HTFU. We caught lots of fish and learnt a heap along the way.

Pics - fishing Garths on a 3 day w'end trips in '84 and '85
