Hi all,
I'm looking to book a multi-day charter up north somewhere for next year (the wonderful wife's suggestion for my 30th).  I would love to get to the Montes or Mackerel Islands or similar. Basically I'm after two things:

1. Do you know any good charters? (Nothing stupidly expensive please)
2. What time of year is best?

Any guidance you could give would be great.  I've emailed a few places that I've found on the net, but only one (around the Abrolhos) has gotten back to me

Thanks in advance,
Jarrod

First you need to define your perception of expensive and stupidly expensive.

theres lots of options available and it also depends on what you want to do.
they vary greatly from hard core fishing to fish dive social type trips where the fishing is secondary to a "good" time -
I dont know much about the Mackeral Islands although you could try the wangler annual trip and see if some one has a place available.
For the montes there are a few that advertise in the wangler such as monte bello safaris - the advantage of ones such as this is you dont have to make up a full party. The down size of ones such as this is they have 12 or more per trip which means they stick to a fairly rigid (but successful)  pattern, but the bigger numbers reduce costs

i use Coral bay Ocean Game fishing charters however, they predominatley only go from Oct - March which is the hotter period. They only take 6 people per trip but you have to make up your own trip of 6 , ie they dont mix groups.
They are very flexible, and do game fishing, depending on what you want to do but the costs are higher( I think about $2800 - $2900 for 2009 for 6 days).
There are others but these are ones I have used

then of course there are the Rowleys but that is getting close to $5k for 5 days -again 6 people only and you have to arrange your own group but it is really really worth it .

Thanks for that info, Brian. I'll probably have to look at one that mixes groups 'cause I don't have enough close mates as keen on fishing as I am :)

Well, as far as price goes, I'm thinking $2500 would probably be pushing it a little so, closer to $2000 would probably get it passed by the budget holder (a.k.a wife).  And yes, hard core fishing would be the go for me. Sure if there was diving to be done, I'd jump in too, but I'm usually more than happy to give up a dive for a fish.

That WAngler annual trip might be something for me to check out too.

Again, thanks.
