I've had a suggestion that Wangler Forum needs a posting forum for issues & links so we can contact or Email the right people and tell them our concerns.

So here's a start. I will try to keep this list up to date and add new contacts as I use/see them in other posts - but names, Email addresses, phone numbers and web sites can change.

There is no private or personal info here - all these contact details are taken from the internet or have been advised.

Please give me any suggestions for a better layout or more contact names and subjects.

Marine Parks Note. The DEC website covering Marine Parks has been rewritten and many of the old links no longer work or have been relocated within the website and/or renamed several times. The best that can be said about this website is that it is very difficult to use, most of the useful Marine Park information has been removed and it is very hard to find what's left.

http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/marine/index.html covers Marine Parks planning, etc., as done under the direction of MPRA, see below.

Some details of individual Marine parks are listed in the Park Finder http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/park-finder/property/marine-parks-and-reserves/name/asc.html

MPRA (Marine Parks and Reserves Authority).

The Marine Parks and Reserves Authority is responsible for development of marine reserve policies and management plans, oversees their implementation, but all the detailed work is done by the Department of Environment and Conservation people. MPRA reports directly to the Minister for the Environment.

http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/mpra/index.html has some information including the MPRA Annual Reports

MPRA contact:- Executive Officer
Marine Parks and Reserves Authority, Level 1, 47 Henry Street, Fremantle WA 6160
Email:lisa.bland@dec.wa.gov.au

MPRA has seven members who are nominated by the Minister and appointed by the Governor. http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/mpra/about-mpra/who-s-who.html lists the names of the MPRA members, and http://www.boards.dpc.wa.gov.au/index.cfm?fuseaction=bcv.bdetail&bno=850 lists the expiry dates of their appointment.

Hi TERRY!

Just as a matter of interest.

I contacted Dr July Edward's office just prior to the last election in concern with these New Sanctuary Zones in the areas of Landbased Fishing (Not Boaties) I was put through to the Minister's PR Man At that time D Edwards came under the Fisheries Minister and she was responsible for most of these planned Sanctuaries. I had a discussion on just what was in store for Rec Fishers Landbased.

I told them of my concern and that I had read there was a big movement politically against the Labor Party because of their plans in this area.
While much information was available from Recfishwest I like to get my info from "the horses mouth", direct. That is no disrespect for this organisation, but I have found over the years that anyone who is heavily involved in politics whether it be in Fishing or Animal Welfare etc., at times tends to overstate their case or gets blinded by their own enthusiasm even when they are on ther right track. They'll call a 10 when 9 would be well and truly within the ball park.

The reply that I recieved was that roughly 98% of all the planned Sanctuaries had provision for Landbased Rec Fishers and only about 2% roughly overall would be closed to all activities in this area. This only regarding the New Zones.

From what I've seen so far of Maps, what I was told is true with regards accessability shown. I'm not talking Ningaloo or the previous Zones.

This of course can only be borne out by Landbased Rec Fishers actually going into these zones and testing the reactions or seeing if there are signs prohibiting Shore based Fishing in areas where accessability is supposed to be ok. If there are such signs or local Rangers hunt us away, then and only then, do we have a strong case for crying foul!

Cheers
(Jim)
