Well I would say that I would have had more fish over the reels than anyone so here is my thoughts....
I think back a few years ago when we tackled the fish with Spin fishers and TLD's - some gear was broken then. And people would arrive at the boat with braid so loose on the spool, well you know what happened [:(]
The Japanese reels are technically perfect, that is they are a joy to use but do have there failing as they are a cast/machined. So lock the drag, bang them on the rail or drop them on rocks they will suffer damage. I have seen rotors explode to rods left with nothing left but the reels foot.
The other that is making its mark felt is the Van Staal. This reel is what I would describe as "good old USA" machining. So far I have had them dropped, smashed into rails by the pull of the fish to anglers using the "axe drop" onto the rail when the jigging technique goes out the door. The winning point is apart from some scratching...... the reel goes on
The twin spin just did not survive the fish that we have here - mental note, ease up with the drag [8D]
Be it Stella, Saltiga, Van Staal, Accurate they all are great, top of the line reels. The problem with them all is "at some stage someone will use them that thinks that they can walk the walk but in reality just talks the talk"
On a last note.....would I purchase the reels (I have a few) again, can I justify the expence..... well does a pub sell beer[:D]
