Terry,
One can only think the 'I Fish' message is getting through, backed by the RFA advert campaign and behind the scenes actions and the Labour candidates are looking for teflon garments. They have a history in that dept.

As you pointed out in an earlier post, The recognition of rec fishing only became part of their platform in recent weeks.

I have already warned my family that I will be inconsolable if Gallop gets back in and the Ningaloo closures stand. It will be the beginning of the end of life as we know it.

Anyone good for bail money?

Craig

Well I responded

Heres my Letter

Do you fish Mr Gallop?????????

I do and do so responsibly.
We need tighter bag limits not closures.
If you ban fisherman from all these areas ban divers, surfers and reef walkers on low tide as they do plenty of damage.
Im sure the whale sharks should be left alone as I dont think they appreciate being chased by divers.
Im sure dive boats anchors damage coral.
If you are intent on closures ban everyone not just fisherman.
I FISH FOR THE FUTURE NOT FOR TODAY.
There are many more like me.

Please explain to me why fisherman are being targeted and others are not.

Mr Gallop please take this question seriously because your job rests on how 650 000 recreational fisherman vote.

Im for closing areas off to save fish stocks but lets have science Prove the facts not what is pollitically advantageous to a Party

Look forward to your response

Lets see what his secretary has in a reply

Mike

A disallowance motion for the Ningaloo Marine Park Plan is currently being debated in State parliament. Here's what one MP had to say in a media release on the subject.

Stages,
It is good to see this is still being debated, and good to see at least some people in higher places can see logic.
I agree with Ken Bastons views.
We are one of the many families that regularly camp on Gnaraloo station. We go there for the fantastic coastline, the peace and tranquility, and the fishing.
Note that fishing actually comes last on my list...
Ultimately, we DO go for the fishing, but we chose our fishing destinations based on the needs of our family, ie; safe beaches for kids, safe surrounds, reduced traffic, but still able to take in some spectacular surrounds.
We fish, if we catch something it usually goes back. Sometimes it is something that will be too good to eat so it goes onto the BBQ, but that is how we fish... it will be only a fish a day if that, that will be kept.

If they take away the fishing, we will have to think again about where we will go camping, and ultimately, probably make it a once a year thing because we will have to travel too far.

I am still worried about what will happen to these areas when CALM takes over the strip they have "reclaimed"... a few years away before that actually comes into effect... but still a worry...they are taking away our playground.

This is what another MP, Judy Edwards, had to say about it:

29/5/05

A State Liberal Party move to hive 60km of endangered species' habitat from Ningaloo Marine Park was tantamount to loading the harpoons of Japanese whalers, Environment and Science Minister Judy Edwards said today.

"The Liberals' move to disallow an extension to the Ningaloo Marine Park - that will ensure the entire 290km length of the Ningaloo Reef is in a formal conservation reserve - is simply sending the wrong message to Japan, at a time when that country is seeking to extend its whale slaughter to species such as humpbacks," Dr Edwards said.

"Ningaloo Marine Park is a habitat for migratory species such as humpback whales and whale sharks and yet the Liberals do not want to see it protected."

I'll bet none of you knew that banning recreational anglers from Ningaloo would stop Japan from harpooning humpbacks and whale sharks.

The woman is a raving lunatic.

The mind boggles! Another politician on a different planet........????

Why bother with harpoons? There's 50 whales on the beach at West Busselton......maybe not Humpbacks but they're still whales.
