I feel sorry that another state will endure a government that favors commercial over recreational fishermen, unfortunatally govts will listen to the spin doctors and number crunchers most decisions made at this time of are to hopefully position themselves better for re-election.

I myself find it hard to support a single interest party like the Fishing Party, yes they could acheive a seat in the upper house, the effeciveness of the member cannot be established untill after the election is decide, it would be unlikly that a single member will hold the balance of power. We saw this at the Federal Election no minor party has an effective voice anymore in fact most will fade into irrelevance like the democrates.

I think you would be better served to have the angling community marshall together and demand credibale and deliverable position from the opposition and government alike, make fishing an election issue, Here in SA we have served notice on the govt that fishing is an election issue, we commenced with the distribution of Anti netting stickers through the tackle shops all financed by a small group of members to FishSA and FishEP websites which combined to become RANSA (recreational angler networkof SA)we with the help of others successfully had part of the new KGW regs overtuned and now there has been a bill intoduced to have Net Fishing banned in Gulf St Vincent.

We became the noisy minority that got heard.

Don't get mad get vocal, remember it the squeaky axle that gets the grease.

Graham

Marine parks are already an election issue Graham, and the State government will end up wishing they weren't.

And well done to the anglers in SA who have managed to force some changes on KGW regulations.

What I find particularly galling is the fact he is prepared to sacrifice rec fishers to win the green vote. This is not decision making using sound scientific reasoning but simply playing the emotive issue of a pristine Ningaloo to win government. The vast majority of uninformed voters look at the spin put on this by the govt and greens and fall into the trap.

In the last decade we have seen governments of both persuasions lie and cheat to remain in power. Where has honestly gone. Am I old fashioned?

Much of what has been said in the last few posts echo my sentiments.

****ed off is an understatement.

Jimbo - any baseball bat will do so long as it is made from wood -I don't like the noise made by those fancy aluminium ones.

Stages-how about inviting one of Gallops stooges to view the forum-could act as a conduit to give the prick a much needed reality check.

Mr Gallop,

Just in case you or some of your cronies bother to monitor this site to gauge reaction to your policy decisions. I would like to inform you you have just lost lost 14 votes from my immediate family as a result of this decision. All 14 were traditionally labour party voters. Hope you have considered the multiplier effect of this decision.

Most unhappy.

Mark

Gday Peter:

I think I'll be leading my program with this tomorrow. You should call in and
have your say. You're right about the snapper ban, the government didnt have a
clue about that until fishermen started shouting -- and a lot of it was done
on my program. They bullshit about being the protectors of the fisheries, they
just want to protect their political backsides.

Paul Murray

It seems once again only a single voice was heard on this matter. You ignored completely Fisheries WA and Recfishwest and the individual voices. You based this decision on the ridiculous notion that recreational fishing is solely responsible for doing damage to the reef. If the Labour government believes they can ignore the people, think again. People will, one way or another get their voice heard, Mr Gallop your government has just placed the final nail in the coffin by ignoring this issue. Due process was clearly not followed as will come out prior to the election, Frank Prokop of Recfishwest will expose the incompetent manner your department has handled this and he is supported by a large number of people.

There is no scientific basis to this matter and you know it. There is a small majority high profile group pushing this and the commercial tourist diving companies will now profit accordingly at the expense of our reef.

The Recreational fishing community has mobilised to expose how the labour government has displayed gross negligence, incompetence and arrogance in regard to a huge industry. I have friends in Exmouth who are now seriously concerned over their future.

We will be heard despite you ignoring your own sitting member in Exmouth, the people of Exmouth and Recfishwest who do more for preservation of fish stocks in WA than your own department. If it wasn't for Recfishwest fisherman the Cockburn Sound snapper breeding stocks would have been destroyed (that's right it wasn't Glen Jakovich, Fisheries acted on reports from Recfishwest). You have woken a sleeping giant over this.

The email below and the related follow-up was a smoke screen as you well know, this matter was decided before correspondence was acted on.

Maybe some research needs to be done on the impact the divers and snorklers have on the reef system. As recreational fisherman we are not getting into the water to fish. I would reckon a fair bit of damage is done by these people who get close up to the reef. How much damage is done by all of the operators as well. Are we going to ban them from the area too. Pretty soon we will lock everyone out and no one will ever get to see these areas for fear of destroying them. I am sure this has been said before. maybe we could organise some kind of action at coral bay and exmouth. Unfortunately we cannot go and lock ourselves to the reef until something is done. We care a little more about the environment than to actually go and do something as crazy as that.
Cheers matt

Hi Everyone

I'm new to this forum thing, but I'll give it a go as this is an important issue.

Is there anywhere i can put my name, my signature or anything. I'm sure the only thing that will make sense to these "descision makers" is numbers. Numbers of lost votes. A petition.
Not sure if there is one already, I may have missed the boat.
Always hoping.

Brad

There have been letters and submissions flying around for a while Brad, and you are too late for all of them except one - the one on election day.

And all you have to remember on that day is that a vote for Labor or Greens is an anti-recreational fishing vote.
