politics gone mad folks[:@]they have broken apart the voter base into a large group of minorities so that one single issue will not **** to many of us off at any one time and come back and bite em on the bum[:@][sm=icon_cheers.gif]

I reckon Fred Reibling (MLA for Burrup) will be starting to sh** himself about now. After losing the mining towns and picking up Exmouth, Carnarvon and Shark Bay in the recent boundary changes to his seat, he's in for one bumpy ride. He enjoyed a 15% majority from the last election, It will be interesting to see how he fares this time around.

Ken Lindsay -> RE: Gallop Screws Fisho's (28 November 2004 2:55:29)

Reibling was bugger all help on the Dampier to Bunbury pipeline issue, bugger all help for fishos. Give him bugger all votes. As for that myopic so and so from Vic park (oh but I'm a country boy from Geraldton-what was that about taking the trees out of the country?), send him back to school. Even Barnett is looking good.

David Adams -> RE: Gallop Screws Fisho's (28 November 2004 8:56:50)

I am surprised he made the announcement so close to the election. He must think there are more green votes than fishing votes. Fred Reibling has come out in the Exmouth area indicating he is opposed to the plan but one commentator suggested this was just a ploy to try and show he was representing the local community while knowing full well that Gallop would force the plan through.

What really gets up my nose is the so called consultation was a sham just so they can tick the box that says "Community consultation undertaken". Their minds were made up 12 months ago.

Up until yesterday I was prepared to wait for the results and look at the figures and reasons for the decision. I actually suport some of the changes. I now think that the process was a sham and that fact is highly offensive to me. So much so that it overrides any rational thoughts about any positive changes.

How much of the tax payers coin was spent on this Community consultation? From what I've wittnessed " A fair bloody Bit", and in my mind the community realises it's all a sham.
Geoff rode the Old growth Logging debate to power, lets hope he rides his Marine Park push back to Bassendean and the upper Swan where they both belong.

Spot on David, couldn't have put it better myself. I recieved a phone call from David Hay this morning (opposing Fred in the seat of North West Coastal at the next State election) asking for my views. Okay, so you might say that he's going to agree with me because he's on the other side, but having served on local council in Roebourne recently, he's probably a bit more understanding when it comes to listening to locals ****ed off about 'lack of consultation'.
I've nothing personal against Fred. I've met him and quite like the bloke. I think he's been hung out to dry, sort of like "we'll lose Fred and pick up the green votes down South".

I would like to put up a post using well balanced reasoning and logic but I still have "scum sucking piece of s**t" in the forefront of my mind.

This could take some time !

[sm=icon_bang.gif][sm=icon_bang.gif]As a lifelong supporter of the ALP I find myself unable to vote for Geoff and his kowtowing sycophants who purport to have the interests of the common man at heart. the only thing they are interested in is themselves & getting relected so as they can continue to ''pamper'' themselves from the public purse, if they think that by closing off large areas of "OUR" coastline they will win alot of green votes, perhaps they should look back about 6 weeks and see what affect another "green vote winner" had on the federal ALP vote in Tasmania! If Dr Gallop & his fellow party members cannot see that by denying access to recreational anglers to large areas of ningaloo reef that he will be hurting the livelyhood of common people not only in the immediate area but in perth based tackle shops, bait supplies , airlines ,camping supplies etc etc they do not deserve our vote .I would like to see what the opposition has to offer & whether or not Colin Barnett has the Balls to stand up to the manipulators in Calm and Fisheries [ who are afterall employed by you and me the poor longsuffering taxpayer] whose only solution seems to be to deny access and decrease baglimits whilst looking after the commercial interests, who knows when any action is supposed to be taken over crayboats being able to wetline and take as many prize fish as they like.The commercial interests will always come first whilst they have the ministers ear. The time has come for all editors / owners of the various fishing publications in WA as well as tackle , camping ,boating, bait suppliers with relevant tourism, chater and accomodation agencies to join together and give wholehearted support to a recreational anglers party targetting the upper house where we will stand the greatest chance of getting our representatives into a position of greatest influence, if someone doesnt seize the ball and run with it , this will be the thin end of the wedge , how many magazines,reels, rods , tents etc will you sell when most of the coast is locked up either through marine parks or denial of beach access stops most of us from going fishing as its either too crowded or it just wont be worth it ! To paraphrase the words of the old ALP that did believe in the common man ITS TIME! and if we dont act together to form a party to protect "our" special interest now with the united support of all those who depend on recreational fishing for making a living then it will be to all our detriment, as there has never been a better time to form our party as a very large percentage of your fellow taxpayers enjoy angling and the lifestyle that we enjoy [up to now] in this state and are disillousioned with the major political parties! In the immortal words of Harvey Crumpet "Carpe Diem" Seize the Day !

Ian Stagles -> RE: Gallop Screws Fisho's (29 November 2004 7:07:44)

I can assure all recreational anglers that this latest anti-fishing move by the Gallop government will not go unchallenged. A group of recreational fishing industry representatives met with the Department of Cabinet prior to this announcement with proposals to try and resolve the issue - our views and suggestions were simply ignored yet again!

There are no justifications for the extensive closures that have been introduced, and the Gallop government knows that. Recreational anglers have been sacrificed for Greens preferences in pursuit of re-election for the Gallop government. That's reprehensible and such actions must redressed or future democratic process' are doomed to failure.

If for a second we thought that we were doing any appreciable harm to fish stocks we would immediately insist that the government take steps to introduce management measures to resolve the problem. We have done this time and time again in the past, and yet on this occasion we are being told that extensive fishing closures are warranted at Ningaloo without any reasonable justification - a view supported by respected Fisheries Scientists in WA!

Dr Gallop states his government has "protected" over one third of Ningaloo Marine Park and he seems to believe that this is "insurance" for the future. How many insurance policies would you buy if the insurance salesman couldn't tell you what you are insuring against or what terms applied to the policy?

The Gallop government can now expect to see whatever force we can bring to bear on them utilised leading up to the next election. The government has failed to protect the access rights of all West Australians and it is our intention to use whatever measures we can to ensure that improper, and unwarranted fishing closures do not continue in the WA.

It is inappropriate, at this time, to expand on what steps we propose to take to protect our access rights, but stay tuned...........

.......and stay very angry until State election day.

Mark Halse -> RE: Gallop Screws Fisho's (29 November 2004 8:06:50)

The labour government obviously thinks the rec-angler is an easy target. Who is advising Geoff, that this disorganised bunch of individuals will not pull together to put pressure on a failing government??

On the front page of the Sunday Times the government states that they're locking up huge sections of the Ningaloo reef system to protect it for future generations, then on page 18 another article states that the reef system has lost 10% of it's coral to ocean warming according to a group of scientist. What's the story, they're banning the rec-angler from any type of fishing with unjustified scientific data then on the other hand we're told that global warming is killing more reef than the rec-angler ever will. Obviously this problem is just to hard to address and keep our precious economy growing. Global warming and salinity problems are doing far more damage than the rec-angler who by the way has just had there bag limits slashed by their governing body. It seems like while we're down they're going to slip the boots in good and proper. How is the rec-angler any worse than the anchor dropping, coral touching, mackie spearing divers who seem to be allowed to continue on their merry way.

When Geoff first run for government I thought this guy could be a breath of fresh air from our previous, stagnant, money over all else, governing body. What a joke, all Geoff is trying to do is save his job any way he can. It's a sad day when our elected governing body stops listening to the local community that is being directly effected in preference of the mass voting population.

Disillusioned and disgusted ex labour voter.

Halsey
