AFTA Award

Western Angler named Australia’s Best Regional Fishing Magazine

The announcement was made at the Australian Fishing Trade Association (AFTA) awards night, which is part of the annual AFTA Tackle Show, on the Gold Coast.

It is the first time the prestigious award has been presented and Western Angler is thrilled to be the inaugural winner, especially given the exceptional quality of other regional publications around Australia.

We at Western Angler have welcomed this great recognition for our efforts over 29 years of being a voice for recreational fishing in Western Australia.

From its humble beginnings as Western Angler and Diver in 1985, as the brainchild of Ian Stagles, and guided steadily by the experienced hand of original editor Ross Cusack for many years, Western Angler has continued to set the standard for regional fishing magazine production and content in Australia.

What started out as a largely black and white stapled publication has evolved into a full colour, glossy perfect bound magazine that is on news stands every two months.

It is also available online in a digital version.

That Western Angler has survived, and thrived, for so long is due to having a wonderful team of great fishing writers, and also thanks to the support of our loyal advertisers.

Our research has shown that many of our readers collect the magazine, keeping all their copies, and we believe this is testament to the quality of Western Angler.

It is also the second time Western Angler has been recognised at the AFTA awards in just three years, with editor Scott Coghlan honoured for Media Contribution to Recreational Fishing at 2012’s show.
